How to Describe Your Project’s Evaluation and Monitoring Plan in a Grant Application

One of the most important sections of any grant application is the evaluation and monitoring plan. Funders want to know how you’ll measure success, track progress, and make adjustments if needed. In this post, I’ll share three key steps to help you describe your plan in a way that will impress funders.

Define Your Metrics and Indicators 

Start by outlining the specific metrics and indicators you’ll use to measure your project’s success. These should directly align with your project’s goals and be measurable. Examples could include participant numbers, behavior changes, or satisfaction rates.

Describe Your Data Collection Methods 

Next, explain how you’ll gather the data. Will you use surveys, interviews, or observation? Include a timeline for data collection to show how often you’ll check in on progress.

Explain Your Review Process and Adjustments

Finally, describe how you’ll review the data and make adjustments if necessary. This shows funders that you’re committed to ensuring the project’s success, even if things don’t go exactly as planned.
